Our Story
How Tiny Tails Began

Tiny Tails is lovingly led by Karis and Andrew, a husband-and-wife team based in Victoria, Australia.

What began as caring for a few special needs Chihuahuas soon grew into a calling. The experience planted a deep seed in our hearts—a passion to help, support, and care for small dogs who need an extra bit of love and understanding.

Over time, Tiny Tails has blossomed into a rescue community supported by dedicated volunteers who share our vision. Together, we specialise in providing care for dogs with special needs, disabilities, or behavioural challenges—those who might otherwise be overlooked or left behind.

Although Chihuahuas hold a special place in our story, our doors are open to all small breeds in need of refuge. From Pugs and Pomeranians to Italian Greyhounds and beyond, each little life is precious to us.

At the heart of our mission is the belief that every dog deserves to be truly seen and understood. We take the time to learn each dog’s unique story, provide the individualised care they need, and work tirelessly to match them with the perfect forever home. For some, that means becoming cherished permanent residents of our rescue family, while for others it means starting fresh with new families who can offer the love and life they deserve.

Tiny Tails is more than a rescue—it’s a place of second chances, resilience, and hope.

Miss Ella-Roo

Prague Ratter

Miss Ella Roo’s story began in Germany, before she travelled all the way to Queensland.

Life took a difficult turn when, as a young pup, she fractured both front legs—starting a long journey of surgeries and recovery.

After re-fracturing one leg and losing nearly all her teeth to periodontal disease, Ella faced more challenges than most.

But nothing holds her back. With seven teeth left and a carefully adapted, jump-free environment, Ella walks, runs, and thrives.

Affectionately called Miss Ella-roo, she’s a permanent and much-loved part of our rescue family, showing every day what resilience and love look like.

Miss Willow

Chihuahua (Short Coat)

Miss Willow joined our rescue with a brave but troubled heart.

She struggled with severe fear aggression, often lashing out with biting, and her family—worried for her safety—made the difficult decision to surrender her into our care.

With patience, time, and love, Willow has made incredible progress. Along the way, she also underwent two surgeries for luxating patellas, showing just how resilient she is.

Because of her unpredictable behaviour, Miss Willow will stay permanently with us as part of our special needs family. We adore her completely—quirks and all.

Baby Nemo

Chihuahua (Long Coat)

Little Nemo was the smallest of his litter, and the only one born with a malformation in his front right leg.

Specialist vets discovered he’s missing part of the bone structure, and advised waiting until he’s fully grown to see if amputation is needed.

For now, Nemo doesn’t let anything slow him down. He’s full of beans, bursting with energy, and overflowing with love. His disability doesn’t define him—it simply makes his story more special.

Best of all, Nemo has a constant companion: his inseparable best friend, Miss Pepper. Together, they are the happiest little pair.

Miss Chi Chi

Our Naked Beauty

Miss Chi-Chi, our Chihuahua rescue's very own Rudie Nudie, is a one-of-a-kind mix of Chinese Crested Hairless and Chihuahua.

Her divine beauty is matched only by her quirky personality. While she's the picture of perfection, her habit of giving "poo kisses" after indulging in a less-than-pleasant snack leaves a bit to be desired.

Miss Chi-Chi's got double knee surgery coming up. Which we'll take one knee at a time. She's a total sweetheart with a touch of quirk who steals hearts wherever she goes.

Miss Pepper

Chihuahua (Short Coat)

Pepper is a tiny short-coat Chihuahua with the biggest heart.

She came into our care as a puppy, born with a malformation that left her fully incontinent. After specialist consultations and MRI scans, we learned there was no medical solution for her condition.

But Pepper didn’t let that stop her. With love, patience, and a little creativity, we found a way to keep her comfortable—complete with her own nappy change table and all the essentials. She enjoys time both in and out of her nappies, and her pure, gentle nature shines through in everything she does.

Pepper may need extra care, but she gives back tenfold in love and joy.
